"OOH RAH" MOMENT

If there's one thing I can say about combat, it's get all the rest you can - you just never know when you'll be up for days at a time.

En Route to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 08. Important gear: M-4 Carbine, iPod and 1950's USMC Mexico Ring

En route from Kuwait to Camp Al Taqqadum aboard a C-17 Globemaster

I decided to take a break from the Combat Operations Center when my Senior Watch Officer decided to obtain some blackmail material on his Senior Watch Chief

STUDDED & JEWELED ENGINEER BOOTS

Here are some amazing studded and jeweled Vintage Engineer Bootse that have surfaced over the years.

Montgomery Wards Catalog - 1955

Glow-in-the-Dark - 1950's

1950'S

1950's - Nice two-tone fading going on here.  I posted a pair387.9 of similar Engineer Boots with the same fading - perhaps the same boot company?

1950's - Notice the fade starting to come through on this pair.

CHIPPEWA SIGN

Here's a neat wooden Chippewa advertisement sign, circa 1960's/1970's.

EARLY ENGINEER BOOTS

This photograph dates back to January 1938 and shows Hap Jones holding his trophy after one of his four Bay City Motorcycle  Clubs' annual New Year's Day Race wins.

It's clear the gentleman on the far right is wearing Engineer Boots, but it's hard to tell if the gentleman to his right is wearing a pair as well.  As early as this photograph is, it's possible the boots were made by Wesco, Red Wing or perhaps Chippewa.  Engineer Boots date back to at least the early 1930's.  There is no proof, that I know of, that this style existed in the 1920's.

RIP JOHNNY MAESTRO - 70 ROCKIN' YEARS

Keep on rockin' Johnny - May 17, 1939 - March 24, 2010

Johnny Maestro began his career in 1956 as lead singer of the Crests, an integrated Doo-Wop group that had a No. 2 single with "16 Candles" and enjoyed a decades-long career with the Brooklyn Bridge.  The group had further success with "Six Nights a Week," "The Angels Listened In," "Step by Step" and "Trouble in Paradise."

There was a digitaly remastered version on YouTube, but this one sounded more authentic

CARLO PAINTINGS IN "OUR LIFE IN THE MINT CHOCOLATE RANCH"

BakeliteBebe has a great Blog, "Our Life in the Mint Chocolate Ranch", where she featured a set of Carlos that are similar to a set we have.  Fortunately for us, we didn't have to sell any kids.

Be sure to click on the link above to visit her Blog.

As featured on her Blog:

...and our set:

This one is fairly large as seen in this comparison photo

The rest of the set:

FORD MOTOR COMPANY PLANTS

Here are some neat workwear images.

Notice the laceback denim jeans on this Gentleman working at the Ford Aviation plant in Detroit - 1942

Two workers on a lunch break at the Ford Motor Company plant -1937

How many cable knit shirts can you spot in this photo taken during a United Auto Workers strike at the Ford River Rouge plant in Detroit - 1949

BUNCH-O-BUCO'S

Oh, to find an original pair of 1950's Buco Engineer's that fit me.

I haven't seen a pair of original Buco's offered for sale in at least two years.  If my memory serves me right, the last pair sold for around $800.

Expect a pair of sizes 8 through 10 to go for $700-$1,000, regardless of whether they are used or NOS.
